Skin needling, also known as Collagen Induction Therapy (CIT), is a painless, safe and effective treatment that uses tiny needles to penetrate the underlying layers of skin, aiding repair and rejuvenation. Skin needling initiates the body’s natural wound healing response underneath the skin. This results in the production and distribution of new collagen to help protect your skin. Skin needling can treat a number of skin conditions including improving skin texture, smoothing wrinkles and lines, scarring and stretch marks. The face is most commonly treated, but other areas of the body such as hands, neck, back and chest also delivers great results.
Skin needling is a safe and reliable treatment that involves creating microscopic punctures in the skin using a specialised motorised micro-needling device. The treatment creates tiny punctures in the skin that absorb the active ingredients of our topical product used and encourage the production of collagen. The collagen works by progressively filling in a scar, line or uneven texture. Making them less noticeable and in some cases removing them all together.
Other skin treatments use methods that often remove the healthy top layer of skin. Skin needling creates dermal stimulation without attacking the outer layer, maximising the overall appearance and speeding the healing rate, much faster than other techniques.
For best results Soul skin needling treatments are only performed in conjunction with a Aspect Dr (or equivalent) skin care regime. We require you to ‘prime’ your skin for 2 weeks before your treatment. This ensures you get the best results possible and decreases the risk of any complications after your needling treatment. We have medical grade skin care packages available at Soul, and package deals with priming kits included.

What can it treat?
- Uneven skin tone
- Smokers lines
- Scarring including acne scarring, burns and surgical scarring
- Large pores
- Hypopigmentation (Vitiligo)
- Stretch marks
- Loss of elasticity
How long does it take?
Your treatment time will vary on the area you would like treated. Generally allow 1 hour for your appointment. Results will be visible in 4 to 6 weeks, most people see an improvement after the first treatment. Your collagen starts to rebuild from 6 to 8 weeks and improved tone, texture and elasticity will be increasingly visible over the next 12 months.
Will it hurt?
Half an hour before commencement, your Registered Nurse will apply a topical anaesthetic (numbing) cream to the area being treated. This will minimise skin sensitivity throughout the procedure. You should only feel some light pressure during the needling process.
Are there any side effects?
In the 12 to 48 hours after your treatment, you will experience mild to moderate redness, swelling and sensitivity. Some patients have experienced light bruising that can last 2 to 3 days, this is normal due to the increased pressure applied. After a few days the area will feel dry and tight – this is normal as the skin begins to heal and produce new collagen.
Is there a particular skin care regime I should follow?
For best results Soul skin needling treatments are only performed in conjunction with a Aspect Dr (or equivalent) skin care regime for 4 weeks prior to your treatment. This includes using a vitamin C and vitamin A serum. It is essential to use a SPF30+ sunscreen every day and avoid sun exposure or any other form of tanning prior to treatment. Our Registered Nurse will discuss options for pre and post care skin products at your appointment.
How many treatments do I need?
Soul recommends at least 3 treatments, anywhere between 3 to 8 treatments as a general guideline depending on the concern. You will need to wait at least 6 weeks between treatments. After your initial consultation our Registered Nurse will create a plan personalised to you and your skin concern.
Please don’t hesitate to get in touch if you have any question about if our treatments are right for you.
